Purpose and advantages of subtasks

In projects, especially in larger projects or complex tasks, subtasks can quickly become confusing. The ability to divide tasks into smaller, more tangible units makes work easier and increases clarity. In Leadtime, more extensive tasks can be broken down into several subtasks, which can then be processed in parallel or one after the other. This enables structured and targeted processing, improves coordination between team members and helps to track progress in more detail.

Advantages of using subtasks:

  • Better overview: dividing tasks into smaller ones makes the main task more manageable. Each employee can concentrate on their specific task, while the project manager retains an overall view.
  • Efficient time management: Sub-tasks help to plan progress more accurately and identify potential bottlenecks at an early stage. Employees can allocate their time to specific subtasks so that management has an overview of progress at all times.
  • Clear responsibilities: Each subtask can be assigned to a separate employee, which structures responsibilities more clearly and makes the workflow more efficient.
  • Prioritization and focus: Subtasks make it easier to set priorities, as certain tasks can be completed more quickly without bringing the entire project to a standstill.

How it works: How do you create subtasks?

  1. Adding subtasks: To add a subtask, open the main task for which the subtasks are to be created. The "Subtasks" area is located in the right-hand sidebar. Here you can add new subtasks by clicking on "+ Add subtask". Each subtask has its own description and can be treated as a normal task.
  1. Assignment of responsible persons: As with main tasks, each subtask can also be assigned to a person. This person is then responsible for completing the subtask and can document its progress.
  1. Tracking progress: The progress of subtasks is displayed in the main task. This allows the project manager to see the status of the entire task at any time and ensure that no subtask is forgotten.
  1. Interrelated workflows: In situations where one subtask needs to be completed before the next can begin, it is particularly handy that all subtasks are organized directly in the context of the main task.
