User-defined fields
🟥 User-defined fields allow you to enter information that is particularly relevant for a task type
This text is a reference. What types of text are there?
Overview
Custom fields in Leadtime allow you to capture specific data tailored to the needs of your organization or project. You can create fields of type text, number, date, checkbox or selection and apply them to different tasks to document important information.
In the following example, various custom fields are created for a task type related to an information security initiative.

Field types
- Text: A simple text field for short entries (e.g. "Responsible reviewer").
- Text area: Larger field for longer text entries (e.g. "Audit results").
- Number: Allows the entry of numerical values (e.g. "Risk level in percent").
- Date: Allows you to enter a specific date (e.g. "Action date").
- Checkbox: Allows you to activate or deactivate a selection option (e.g. "Compliance requirement met").
- Selection: Allows you to select from predefined options (e.g. "Risk level: high, medium, low").
Creating a user-defined field
To create a custom field, navigate to Administration → Task settings → Custom fields and click + Create. Enter a name for the field and select the appropriate type (text, number, date, checkbox, selection). Optionally, you can also add a description to clarify the use of the field.

Example: Custom fields for the task type "Information security measure"
In this example, we create custom fields that are specifically relevant for the task type "Information security measure". Information security projects often require precise documentation and risk assessment. Here are some custom fields to help capture the important details of these tasks:
Risk level (checkbox)
- Description: This field is used to assess the level of risk associated with the particular information security measure.
- Options: High, Medium, Low
- Example: For a security-critical task, such as the implementation of a new firewall, the risk level could be set to "High".
Action date (date)
- Description: This field documents when the information security measure was implemented.
- Example: After a security gap has been closed, the person responsible enters the date of implementation, e.g. "12.10.2024".
Responsible security officer (text field)
- Description: This field records the name of the person responsible for monitoring and implementing the security measure.
- Example: The safety officer "Max Mustermann" is entered here to clearly document responsibility.
Test result (text area)
- Description: The results of a safety check or audit can be documented here.
- Example: After the implementation of a safety measure, it is recorded in the "Test result" field that "no deficiencies were found".
Conclusion
User-defined fields offer the possibility of adapting Leadtime precisely to the specific needs of your company. In security-critical projects, such as the task type "Information security measure", these fields facilitate documentation and tracking, which ultimately contributes to a better overview and compliance.
