Customize task types
🟥 Create individual task types that precisely match your workflows

Purpose and definition

Task types in Leadtime are essential for clearly categorizing tasks and adapting them to different workflows. They make it possible to differentiate tickets according to their nature and the associated process. The standard types are "Feature" and "Bug", which are mainly intended for software development companies.
- Feature: Used for the development of new functions. These are value-adding activities such as the addition of new product features.
- Bug: Used for fixing problems (errors) discovered in the system.
In addition to these standard types, new, individual task types can be created to meet the specific requirements of a company. For example, a task type called "Information security requirement" could be created for the area of information security.
In the following example, a special task type is created to implement a requirement as part of an information security initiative.
Creating a new task type

To create a new task type, navigate to the task settings under Administration and follow these steps:
- Select icon: Select a suitable icon that visually represents the task type (e.g. a shield icon for security tasks).
- Name: Assign a clear name that describes the task type (e.g. "Information security requirement").
- Type: Determine whether it is a function or an error.
- Status: Choose from the predefined task statuses or create your own to match your task type.
- Custom fields: Add fields that are relevant to this task type (e.g. "risk level" for safety tasks).
- Task text template: Create a standard template to help task creators capture the relevant information.
Example: Information security requirement

Suppose a company wants to record and track information security measures. A new task type "Information Security Requirement" could be created that contains specific user-defined fields:
- Risk level (drop-down field with choices: High, Medium, Low)
- Action date (date field)
- Responsible safety officer (text field)
- Audit result (text area for notes)
The following task statuses could also be defined:
- Safety requirement created (derived from "New")
- Action in progress (derived from "In Progress")
- Action implemented (derived from "Resolved")
- Closed (derived from "Closed")
Advantage of customizing task types
The ability to create your own task types and add user-defined fields to them means that a company can adapt Leadtime precisely to its own processes. This improves clarity and ensures clearly structured workflows that are tailored to the requirements of the respective team or project.
